Port Angeles
Port Angeles, Washington
The City of Port Angeles is a gateway to multiple tourist destinations, including Olympic National Park and Victoria, B.C., making it a prime local, national, and international tourist destination. Downtown Port Angeles is home not only to these international portals, but also to multiple public access beaches, a public pier, education and research facilities, as well as the Olympic Discovery Trail. In order to tailor to the needs of Port Angeles’ citizens and visitors, an attractive and convenient wayfinding system needed to be designed that would help the city assist the community and its visitors.
A Wayfinding Plan was developed for Port Angeles in 2011. As considerable time had passed, since the last analysis and planning effort and because the city has continued to change, the wayfinding plan needed to be updated and a new implementation plan created. We were commissioned by the city to assess and update their 2011 Wayfinding Plan. Through this effort we provided an updated branded wayfinding system. The Wayfinding Signage Program fluidly guides vehicular and pedestrian traffic within the city. The program is designed to enhance the identity of the community and its institutions, reinforce the city’s brand, improve the visitor experience, and inspire a better sense of place.
